WyvHUD

The WyvHUD is a free heads-up-display component to the Wyvernclaw Wand & Spell system. It is designed to serve two major functions:

  1. To allow you quick, easy HUD click access to your favorite spells and functions.
  2. To allow you to operate the Wyvernclaw system entirely in mouselook, without need for verbal commands.

With these objectives in mind, the WyvHUD is primarily designed to turn Wyvernclaw (and CERIX play) into a user-friendly FPS (first-person-shooter).

SPELL LISTS

The WyvHUD holds up to 20 spells in memory, in four groups of five (A, B, C, D). The spells are shown in the spell buttons (4, 5, 6, 7, 8) according to their group. Loading each group using the group keys (9, 10, 11, 12) will cause the buttons displayed to be replaced with the spells in that group.

To configure which spells are in which group, open the WyvHUD (Right click > Open) and double-click on the .config notecard:

In the notecard are four lines labeled GROUP A, GROUP B, GROUP C, and GROUP D. Fill each of these in with a list of up to five spells each, separated by commas:

Keep in mind that the HUD can only trigger the spells you have already purchased and installed on your wand. Adding a spell you do not have will not enable you to use that spell; the HUD merely tells your wand which spells to use. The examples given on the notecard out of the box are simply there to give you an idea of how to format your spell lists.

Also remember that while capitalization doesn't matter, spell names must be correctly spelled or else the HUD will not be able to trigger the spells in your wand or find the proper buttons to display the spell on the HUD.

TIP: This function is designed to let you group spells according to your preference! Rather than simply putting spells in the order you use them, try grouping them by type or use. For example, Group A could be strong combat curses for dueling, and Group B could be healing spells and charms.

WyvHUD will read your spell lists just as soon as you finish editing and save the .config notecard. It will then load Group A; click on any of the spells to use it. Click the B button (10) to access the spells in Group B, etc.

MODES

The WyvHUD has two modes:

  1. In CAST mode, when you click on a spell button, the wand will cast the spell, either aimed in mouselook (which will fire the spell from the tip of your wand) or in normal mode (which will bring up a list of targets).
  2. In LOAD mode, clicking a spell button will load the spell into the wand as the current firing spell. The wand will then fire that spell when you aim and click in mouselook.

TIP: CAST mode offers easy access to your spells if you wish to fire them using the same force setting. Aim in mouselook and cast a spell to fire it at the person you're aiming at. LOAD mode is good if you like to use Wyvernclaw's click-and-hold force setting, which builds force the longer you hold a click before releasing to fire the spell.

These modes are toggled by using the Mode button (2). When the Mode button is lit up, WyvHUD is in LOAD mode. When the Mode button is dark, WyvHUD is in CAST mode.

FORCE BAR

The Force Bar (14) at the bottom of WyvHUD allows you to set and view the force currently on your wand.

The arrows on either end (13, 15) allow you to lower and/or raise the force incrementally by clicking and holding. Click once to raise/lower the force by one click, or click and hold until the force is in the desired location.

Clicking on the bar between the two arrows, or just below the bar, will set force immediately to the area of the bar clicked:

This allows you to quickly determine exactly how much force you want behind your spell.

TIP: It's much faster to simply click on the bar at the level you want your force set to. The arrows with the incremental increase/decrease are really only there because they look all cool and professional-like.

Another function of the force bar is to show you exactly how much force your wand is using when you utilize the hold-and-release force setting in the Wyvernclaw Wand (please see Wyvernclaw Wand documentation for more information). The force used on the last spell cast this way will flash on the force bar:

wyvhud_illustration-5

This is to help you get the hang of how long to hold the click before releasing to get the desired effect. Please keep in mind that this number will only show if you are in mouselook and firing using the click-and-hold method; any other method will use the force you have set on your wand using either the force bar or the wand's own force setting.

GESTURES

While WyvHUD is very cool, it is the gestures that really complete the easy use of the wand.

If you don't know what a gesture is, please read the Second Life documentation on the subject.

Since gestures can be set to be triggered by pressing F keys (F2, F3, F4, etc, all the way to F12), we've included a set of gestures, mapped to these keys, that will operate the HUD and the wand.

Click the Header button (1) to access the Support menu. Select "Gestures" from the drop-down menu. The HUD will give you a folder entitled "WyvHUD Gestures." Find these gestures and activate them:

The included gestures are mapped as follows:

  • F2, F3, F4, F5, F6 - These trigger Spell 1, Spell 2, Spell 3, Spell 4, and Spell 5, respectively. Which spells these are will depend on which group is active (i.e. F2 will trigger the first spell of whatever group is currently up).
  • F9 - This toggles CAST and LOAD modes.
  • F10 - This will switch the HUD to the next group (i.e. if the current group is A, it will switch to B. If the current group is D, it will switch back to A).
  • F11 - This will lower the force on the wand by one point. Press repeatedly until the force is at satisfactory level.
  • F12 - This will raise the force on the wand by one point. Press repeatedly until the force is at a satisfactory level.

TIP: You should actually use these. The joy of the WyvHUD is that it allows you to operate your magical dueling in an entirely FPS setting. By aiming with your mouse hand and switching spells with your other, you can conduct full duels without ever having to pause to issue a verbal command or use the menu.
