The Wyvernclaw Wand (Classic Edition)
20/07/07 15:10 Product category: Wands
The Wyvernclaw Wand is the starting point of a
sophisticated and powerful spell system, effective
both in normal SL usage and in the CERIX RPG system.
Alone, the Wyvernclaw Wand is just a stick of wood,
but loaded up with Wyvernclaw spells it becomes a
powerful weapon and tool. Select Wyvernclaw spells to
add to your wand and engage in combat with other
wizards or protect yourself in the virtual world of
SL.
SYSTEM OVERVIEW:
The Wyvernclaw Wand & Spell System is complex but intuitive. This is a basic primer to explain precisely how it works.
Let's begin by describing the two main modes of the Wyvernclaw System:
1. RPG (CERIX) - The RPG (Role-Playing Game) mode of Wyvernclaw uses CERIX, the premier combat and interaction system by aubreTEC Labs.
CERIX is a free HUD-based system that has been integrated into the Wyvernclaw website and region (Meijis). CERIX enables users to engage in magical combat/interaction, with full damage, push, and stun effects (as well as several other interactions) in regions that do not have combat and/or push enabled, and without affecting bystanders. The CERIX system also maintains comprehensive user statistics and a ranked scoring system. Two CERIX-equipped players may engage in combat in any region in SL.
When in CERIX mode, Wyvernclaw spells will engage CERIX effects and statistics, and will be limited by the player's CERIX energy level, which builds at a pre-set rate and depletes with each spell cast, depending on the force it is cast with.
2. Normal - When in normal mode, Wyvernclaw spells will do normal Second Life damage, push, and trap effects, depending on the settings of the land they are cast on.
Keep in mind that some spells, such as healing spells, which have no Second Life equivalent, will be marked as CERIX-only and will work only on CERIX players. Alternately, some spells (such as malefico) are designed only for normal usage and their use is prevented in CERIX play.
Most spells have a Normal mode and a CERIX equivalent mode. In CERIX-only regions, such as Meijis, your Wyvernclaw play will be restricted to CERIX (attempting to switch to Normal mode will fail). Otherwise, you may switch freely between the modes for play in any situation. Be aware that CERIX use is not necessarily restricted to CERIX-only regions; you may engage in CERIX combat with a CERIX user anywhere at anytime.
Got that much? Great. Now let's move on to the two components of the Wyvernclaw System:
1. Casting Artifacts - The Wyvernclaw system begins with a casting artifact, an attachment designed for the casting of spells. The most common casting artifact is the Wyvernclaw Wand, but we will also be developing staffs, bracers, etc. for those who prefer to use their magic without wands. Only Wyvernclaw casting artifacts will work; a simple stick will not do, nor will a wand or staff created by any other user without a Wyvernclaw seal on it. The Wyvernclaw system is complex, using custom colors for effects, managing energy usage for CERIX, and keeping track of force settings, etc., so it is very important that you use a Wyvernclaw brand or approved casting artifact. Plus, they're cheap.
Note: Since wands are the most common casting artifact, we may tend to use the word "wand" to refer to the aspect of the system. Just bear in mind that other alternatives to the wands are to be made available.
2. Spellbooks - Once you have selected your Wyvernclaw casting artifact, you may then begin to choose spells. Wyvernclaw Wands do very little without spells; it is by adding spells that you add capability as a wizard/mage/witch/warlock/geek.
To add a spell, purchase the spellbook, which will then allow you to install the spell on your wand. Once you have purchased the spellbook, you must set it on the ground and run through the installation process to put the spell on your wand. Note that spellbooks are copiable, so once you purchase a spell, you may install it on whatever casting artifacts you own, if you own multiple kinds.
ADDING SPELLS:
Now that we've established how the Wyvernclaw system works, and you have apparently purchased a wand, the next step is to select your spells. There are 6 different kinds of spells:
1. Curses - These are powerful weapon spells designed to inflict grave damage.
2. Jinxes - These are hinderance spells designed to get in an opponent's way. These include traps, stunning spells, etc.
3. Charms - These are helpful spells, such as healing spells (CERIX-Only), shielding spells, etc.
4. Hexes - These are minor weapon spells or mischief spells.
5. Enchantments - These spells are designed to delight and/or amuse, and have generally little practical usage.
6. Glamours - These spells are generally light-effects only and are designed to create ambience.
You may select these spells from any Wyvernclaw location. Note that only Wyvernclaw spells are compatible with Wyvernclaw Wands. Purchase a spellbook (they generally range from about $25L for glamours to $250L for some curses) and rez it on the ground. The book will begin to follow you, in case you should need to move. Click the book to begin the installation process. Once the spell is added to your wand, the wand will adjust and add the spell to the list of available spells.
USING SPELLS:
There are actually three ways to use the spells in the Wyvernclaw Wand. While most spells may be triggered in all three ways, some spells may only respond to two of the following casting methods. Each spellbook will tell you which casting methods apply to each spell.
1. Chat Commands - Almost all Wyvernclaw spells can be cast using chat commands. To cast the spell, simply say the name of your spell on your command channel (The default command channel is 0; see the Options section of the manual for information on how to change it) followed optionally by part of the target's name if the spell is a targeted spell. For instance, saying "rosae luc" will cast the rosae spell on the nearest avatar with "luc" in their name. However, the shield spell tego is not a targeted spell, so only "tego" is required to cast the spell.
2. Menu - You may click the wand to receive a menu of spells or say "menu" on your command channel. Click the spell you wish to cast; if the spell is targeted, a list of available targets will pop up in a menu; click on the appropriate name to cast the spell on them.
IMPORTANT: IN CERIX MODE, AN ENERGY PENALTY, GENERALLY BETWEEN 15% AND 25%, WILL BE DRAINED FOR ANY SPELLS CAST USING CHAT AND/OR MENU COMMANDS. IN CERIX, IT REQUIRES MUCH LESS ENERGY TO CAST SPELLS IN MOUSELOOK, AS DESCRIBED BELOW. NO SUCH PENALTIES OCCUR IN NORMAL USAGE.
3. Mouselook - You may cast spells in mouselook for a more strategic experience or to save energy in CERIX mode. You may load one spell into the wand's memory to fire every time you click. To do this, say "load " (such as "load rosae") on your command channel or use the "Load" button in the Options menu (see Options section for more details). If the spell may be cast in mouselook, the wand will load the spell and fire that spell whenever you click while in mouselook.
You may also say the name of a spell while pointing at your target in mouselook to fire the spell. This may seem pretty clumsy, but the option is designed to allow you to use gestures, mapped to your F keys, to keep a small selection of your favorite spells available to fire at the push of a button. For instance, if your command channel is set to 10, you could create a gesture that causes you to say "/10 rosae" in chat when you press the F2 key. This way, whenever you were in Mouselook, you'd simply have to press F2 to cast the rosae spell.
IMPORTANT: MOUSELOOK CASTING LOOKS MUCH COOLER IF YOU'VE ENABLED "VIEW AVATAR IN MOUSELOOK" UNDER THE GENERAL TAB OF YOUR SECOND LIFE PREFERENCES.
ENDING SPELLS:
The command "nix", spoken on your command channel, will end any spells currently running in the region you're in. You may also select "Nix" from the spell menu.
OPTIONS:
Your Wyvernclaw Wand has a number of options for the most customizable user experience available. Click on the "Options" button in the menu to access the Options menu or say any of these headings on your command channel.
1. Design - This will create a Wyvernclaw Customization Panel, which may be used to customize your wand. The panel will rez about 4m in front of you, and contains a various selection of wood grains and colors that may be used to customize the appearance of each prim grouping on your wand. To customize part of your wand, click the "Menu" button on the Customizer and select the aspect of your wand you wish to color (Handle, Shaft, Pommel, Hilt, Detail, Effect1, Effect2). Then select a texture for that part, a color, and a shine level (Normal, Full Bright, Low, Medium, or High).
The Effect1 and Effect2 settings work a little differently. Every spell in the Wyvernclaw system uses a particle effect of some kind and has its own built-in colors for each effect. By setting colors for Effect1 and Effect2, you can override the effect colors of most of these spells for a more consistent theme. To return the effect colors to default (each spell has its own default colors), set Effect1 and Effect2 to the "default" color bar (the long one under all the colors).
2. Stow/Draw - Stowing the wand will cause it to fade to invisibility, and will turn off almost all active scripts in the wand. Drawing the wand will cause it to appear again, and will turn scripts back on so they are available for your use.
3. Mode - The mode command will toggle between RPG (CERIX) mode and Normal mode. Remember that CERIX mode requires the CERIX HUD and uses energy management. In some CERIX-Only regions, your wand will switch automatically to CERIX mode for fair play.
4. Force - The force setting controls how strong certain spells are cast, and/or how long they last. This is different for each spell, and is most important in the CERIX environment, as the stronger the force a spell is cast at, the more energy it takes. This can lead to challenging resource management. Default available force settings are 0 - 5; if you have more than five spells in your wand, however, you gain access to more force, so the force options will be 0 - 10. You may set force using the menu or by saying "force " (such as "force 7") on your command channel.
5. Channel - This is the channel used for casting spells and/or using chat commands. Default is channel 0, or public chat. Remember that speaking on any channel other than 0 requires you to prefix your command with a slash and the channel number (i.e. "/7 rosae luc"). To hide your casting commands from those around you, set your command channel to something other than 0. The command channel you set will also affect any gestures you set up to trigger spells in mouselook. You may use the menu or set the channel using the command "channel " (i.e. "channel 5") on your current command channel.
6. Help - This will fetch this website, where you can find the manual, product information, spell listings, and a form to submit support requests. You may also IM aubreTEC Commerce in-world for tech support (after reading this manual fully), but it is generally faster and simpler to submit a request form.
7. Load - This command allows you to load the quick-cast spell for use in Mouselook. While you can cast any spell in mouselook by saying the spell name on the command channel (this is mainly designed for setting up gestures for your favorite spells and triggering them with F-keys), the loaded spell will cast whenever you click. If you generally find yourself casting one particular aim-able spell, you can load it into memory for faster casting. Using the menu will provide you with a list of compatible spells; you may also load a compatible spell by using the command "load " (i.e. "load rosae") on your command channel.
UPDATES:
The wand will automatically check for updates once per day, on rez. If an update of the wand, or any spell, is available, it will be delivered to you automatically. If the update is minor, it can generally be accomplished with an updater spellbook to avoid having to reload a wand spell.
